Frequently asked questions
What can I expect?
Initial Consultation
In your first session, you can expect your practitioner to help orient you to therapy and undertake an initial assessment. This might include a range of questions about some of the challenges you have been facing, some questions about your history, and what you are seeking from therapy. If you feel that your practitioner is a good fit for you, together you will create a plan for therapy moving forward.
Subsequent Sessions
Subsequent sessions will be centered around moving towards therapeutic goals. These sessions will always be collaborative and tailored toward you as an individual. Practitioners will often ask you to reflect upon or practice some of the strategies covered in session at home. This ensures that every session is a valuable use of your time and energy.
Overall
It is not expected that your journey will always be straightforward or comfortable. What you can expect is unconditional respect, empathy and positive regard from your practitioner throughout.
Clinical Psychologist and Psychologist are protected titles, which means these practitioners must uphold a specific set of ethical requirements to maintain registration. Is online therapy effective?
There is ever-increasing research suggesting therapy conducted in an online format is just as effective for improvements in mental wellbeing as sessions conducted in person - for some people, more effective. Further, online therapy improves access to mental healthcare for vulnerable people and those in rural communities who might not otherwise get the support they require.
Online therapy is supportive of your schedule and lifestyle. Feel free to book sessions over your lunch break, use a meeting room at work, have a session in your lounge room, while at the park, or in your parked car. As long as the space is private, comfortable and uninterrupted, your options are limitless. No more taking extra time for travel, paying for transport costs or parking. Feel free to bring along a cup of tea and your fur baby!

Most research relating to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy indicates 10 sessions as an appropriate amount for many. But depending on your therapy goals and plan, there is no ‘correct’ length of time or number of sessions you should aim for. Your practitioner should regularly check in with you to ensure your goals are on track and together you can identify any barriers you might be facing.
